James Marshall joined the group in 1993 and held several frontline and senior management positions before assuming the role of General Manager of Radio Rentals in 2006. In 2013 he was appointed Chief Operating Officer and in 2014, Managing Director & CEO. James has extensive knowledge of financial services and has been instrumental in reshaping and positioning Thorn’s brands for growth since listing in 2006.
James has played an important part in Thorn’s diversification strategy and, as well as his experience within the group, he has exceptional operational skills and the ability to work effectively with all stakeholders of the business.
James holds a diploma in Financial Services from Monash University and is a member of the Finance and Treasury Association, Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management.
Peter Forsberg joined the group in September 2015 as Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to Thorn, Peter had been the Group CFO of St Vincent’s Health Australia (SVHA) comprising St Vincent’s six public and eight private hospitals, aged care, research and associated medical services.
Peter is an experienced CFO and senior finance executive having worked in healthcare, manufacturing and distribution, FMCG, professional services and in publicly listed and private equity owned companies in Australia and internationally. Before joining SVHA, Peter held CFO roles at DCA Group Ltd, Blake Dawson Waldron and Goodman Fielder.
Peter has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from University of Reading in the United Kingdom and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia. Peter is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and FINSIA, as well as an associate at the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Matt Ingram joined Thorn in February 2014 as General Manager Thorn Equipment Finance.
Matt has over 20 years extensive experience in the financial services sector, demonstrating a strong background in strategic planning, people development and team leadership while originating strong relationships and driving shareholder value. Matt has held senior executive positions at Investec Bank Australia, Alleasing, Equigroup and CBA both in Australia and the UK.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Science degree from University of NSW.
Wendy Yip joined the group in December 2015 as Chief Risk Officer and leads Thorn Group's Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit function.
Wendy has over 17 years’ experience as a risk and capital management professional, across advisory firms and major financial institutions. At Deloitte since 2010, she has been a senior risk advisor in the national Risk Advisory practice, and prior to this, she has been with PricewaterhouseCoopers, ING Direct and Commonwealth Bank, in senior technical positions involving credit risk analytics, capital management and regulatory advisory.
Wendy holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from University of New South Wales, a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance from University of Melbourne and Master in Applied Statistics from Macquarie University.
Peter Ryan joined the group in November 2015 as General Counsel and Company Secretary and is former partner at DibbsBarker Lawyers.
Peter is an experienced commercial lawyer with particular expertise in the consumer credit and equipment finance industries. For the past 28 years, Mr Ryan has been a commercial partner in Sydney law firms and, most recently, for the past 17 years has been a partner of DibbsBarker Lawyers operating in the Financial Services Section of its Commercial Group.
Peter comes to Thorn Group with extensive experience in all aspects of consumer and commercial law, including wholesale and retail equipment financing.
Peter is a member of the Australian Finance Conference, a fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia, and the Law Society of New South Wales.
Derrick Hubble rejoined Thorn in 2012 after an initial appointment between 2000 and 2006 when he held the role of General Manager. His other operational experience includes senior management roles at Myer, Oroton, Nuance Group and Ticketek.
Derrick’s knowledge of the Thorn rental business now spans 10 years and he has been a contributor to the strong growth of the business over that time and been helped in the delivery of many new initiatives.
Derrick holds a Bachelor of Business Degree at University, Technology Sydney.
Phil Chaplin joined Thorn in March 2016 as General Manager Thorn Equipment Finance.
Phil has nearly 20 years of experience in the finance industry, combining a broad skill-set across general management, sales leadership, operational excellence and strategic planning, with an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of equipment finance.
Phil has held senior management roles in a number of bank and private equity backed financers across Australia and New Zealand, and brings to Thorn considerable experience in originating and developing partnerships with equipment vendors and specialist financiers. Phil holds a diploma in Business Management.
